What motivated you to be on the SOLES board?
Since I came in as a freshman, I've been very involved, and I've seen what a great organization SOLES is and all the good things that SOLES does. I just really want to help further that and make the organization better than it already is.
What do you like most about SOLES?
I like the sheer variety of things that SOLES does. From the outreach to precollege students to the amazing professional development events to the social events to the conferences, everything SOLES does makes it an amazing organization.
What is your favorite SOLES event?
It's a hard choice, but I think that the most fun event I've been to so far has to be the National Conference this last year in Washington DC. Everything about the trip was awesome. Sightseeing in DC, the massive career fair, everything. It's a huge event and one of the best weekends I've ever experienced.
Future Plans?
After graduating this year, I plan to enter into industry to gain experience
and hopefully return to school to pursue a graduate degree in the near future.
Position:
Vice President
Major:
Chemical Engineering
What is your favorite SOLES event?
If I have to choose, then I would have to say Family Day. In this
event SOLES members and their families come together. We perform a
series of fun activities and are able to demonstrate to our families
the purpose of SOLES and the positive impact it has in our community
and our members.
What motivated you to be on the SOLES board?
I believe in the mission and vision of this organization. SOLES purpose is to
provide for the academic, professional, and personal development of the Latino
student community.
What do you like most about SOLES?
The people in SOLES and their dedication to community outreach. I
think our outreach efforts do not only help the community, but it also
creates opportunities to our members to give back. SOLES provides
underrepresented students with knowledge, encouragement and excitement
about pursing a higher education in the STEM fields.
Future Plans?
My plans at the moment are to finish college with a degree in chemical
engineering, work for a couple of years. Then I'd like to get my
masters in engineering.
Position:
Outreach Director
Major:
Chemical Engineering
What do you like most about SOLES?
Being able to give back to the community as well as getting to know all of the
members.
What motivated you to be on the SOLES board?
I wanted to make a difference and increase the number of minority students
pursuing degrees in STEM fields.
What is your favorite SOLES event?
Engineers in Training Day
Future Plans?
After graduation I will be working as a process engineer for Chevron, and
eventually I want to get a masters in education and become a high school
chemistry teacher.
Position:
Treasurer
Majors:
Civil Engineering and Environmental Engineer
What is your favorite SOLES event?
Noche de ciencias
What motivated you to be on the SOLES board?
I wanted to part of a group that supports minority students and motivates them
to be successful in the area of science and engineering. In addition, I really
like how this group is more than just a student organization but more like a
family or group of friends that look out for each others academic success and
personal development.
Future Plans?
I would like to work in remediation of polluted sites, waste water management,
air pollution control, recycling, waste disposal, radiation protection,
industrial hygiene, and/or environmental sustainability.
What do you like most about SOLES?
I really like the outreach events that we do throughout the year at elementary,
middle and high schools.
Position:
Internal Activities Coordinator
Major:
Mechanical Engineering
What is your favorite SOLES event?
Ski Trip. Nothing
tops it. I learned how to snowboard my first Ski Trip, and now it's one of my
favorite hobbies. We all get to stay in a huge cabin and we have a great
weekend. Ski trip has been the highlight of my winter since freshman year.
What motivated you to be on the SOLES board?
Since my freshman year, whether it was through its outreach programs, study
nights, professional development events, etc., all I've seen SOLES do is give
back to its community. I wanted to be a part of such a great organization and
help out as much as possible.
What do you like most about SOLES?
Once you're in, you're family.
Future Plans?
Graduate and get hired to put my education to use; if not, I'm going to make it big in the rap game.
